Stirring song
Mayela had taken over stirring their supper in the pot.   It was a pork stew,  filled with  carrots, onion, sage and thyme, to which she was slowly adding barley flour as a thickener, whilst stirring and singing the old family stirring song.
Stir, stir the fire is hot,
The water boils, the food is cooking
Stir, stir, the fire is hot
If you don't, the food will burn.

excerpt from Compensations
...he soon ignored Giles along with all the other staff, and got on with the one thing he did particularly well.
Making money.
Thomas DeRivault had inherited two houses in Britain and a villa in Portugal, a business of twenty-four garages in the east of England, six race horses and a total debt of £9.6 million.  In less than three years he had turned it all round by ruthless endeavour; with all of the debt managed, and the businesses turned into profit or sold. Now, 12 years later, he owned twelve good properties, a whole racecourse in Eire and a total of ninety-three garages in six companies, spread through eleven countries.
Yes, that was one thing Cecilia had no complaints about.  As she cast her eyes around, she could see all the trappings of extreme wealth in this room alone.  The old Sanderson wallpaper had been replaced by a hand blocked print from New England at $125 a roll.  The paintings were all Old Masters, selected fr

Anger
Anger
She has done it this time,
I've had enough.
No, really, I shouldn't have to put up with this,
OK, so yeah, I made a mistake,
People do, you know, I said I'm sorry.
She wound me up all evening,
She says whatever she likes,
And if I complain, she was
Only joking.
Apparently, though, this one remark of mine was:
The lowest of the low, the cruellest ever.
Whatever.
So she doesn't want to see me any more,
Huh, how many times have I heard that one?
If she phones, I'm not going to just carry on like nothing happened
Not again, not like every other time,
I'm going to be busy, in fact I will make sure I really am,
for the next few days.
I've got other friends, you know,I could call some girls,
Talking of which, I tell you if some nice woman started talking to me...
Is that the phone!
It could be her!
[runs, grabs phone]
"Hello!!!! Oh. hi. its you.  Sorry, I was expecting someone else...".
I must check my e-mails.
[Nothing new]
Who am I kidding, come on, let's get o

After The Snow
After The Snow
Meeting at lunchtime after a week or more of snow, my mother asks,
"Is it like spring now?"
"It is and it isn't," I reply, with a slight, crooked smile.
The bright sunshine, with a clear, blue sky,
The rising daffodil and crocus plants,
The carpet of snow gone from the ground,
All these give a feeling of hope and positivity.
Then again, there is still a chill wind,
Still ice in the bird bath,
Still frost on the lawn in shade,
Still little piles of crystally snow in the corners-
In fact, in the park, where the children have made great dirty snowballs, the field of green grass still looks like it has children's drawings of sheep on it.
Now, as the sun goes down, a bit later, but before six,
I am reminded that its still only February.

Three Women
Three women
I love three women.
The first is so sweet, so adorable, like a fluffy kitten I just have to wrap my arms around her.
The silly things she says, the sad eyes when things go wrong; I just want to scoop her up and cuddle her and make everything go right for her.
She forgot today's appointments, the bottle got knocked over and she has no idea how to open that packet. Never mind, that's what I'm here for, to patiently put everything back in its place and fix the unfixable; its is a matter of great pride, you know.
I get blamed, even if I wasn't there; it doesn't matter.  I might get a 'sorry', a quirky smile and even a hug later.
The second makes interesting conversation; she is well informed in many subjects and asks intelligent questions with a desire to learn yet more.
We make a great team, she does the bits I'm not so good at, be it writing, gardening or playing a game.  She is fit and athletic, leaving me behind as she

On the Edge
On the Edge
She hides her face in hoods and hair and mutters darkly to herself.  She looks forbidding and miserable.  Wrapped about with a shadowy cloak of defences.  I don't know what to say or do.  Is there any way I can get through to her?  To pierce the gloom; to light the darkness.  I say nothing- anything I say or do might make it worse.  Why am I here?  What is the point?  What can I do?  Where else could I be?  Anywhere, surely.
Then suddenly she flashes a look straight into my eyes- it fixes me like a butterfly on a pin.  Then, as my tired, old eyes lock with hers, something deep inside me rises up and conquers my fears- my mouth turns up on one side in a slight smile.  She is staring at me as if looking straight into my soul, searching suspiciously for the enemy within, questing for an answer I might not want to give.&

Lisa Come Home
Lisa Come Home
You've been away a long time and I
Miss you like crazy
I'll come running up to you and
Hold you forever
I wake up in the morning and I
Think of you all day and then
If I get to sleep I'll
Dream of you all night
Lisa I love you
Lisa you know it's true
Lisa I need you
I don't want nobody but you.
I talk to our friends and
Our thoughts turn to you and
Because you're not here
There ain't nothing to do
SO
Lisa, come home today
Lisa don't go away
Lisa come home to stay
Lisa, don't away without me.

Happy Days- I have won first prize in a 100 word story writing competition.  £100 !

That's a Pound a Word!

The winning story, plus two other entries of mine will be in a book published by Earlyworks due out in 2017.  I will let y'all know the title etc when I have it.

I am still chasing that elusive name-on-the-cover with a real publisher, but it certainly keeps me going to have some success.  Micro-fiction is the only thing that ever gets me any money.  I don't know what that says about my writing; I suppose it suggests that I cannot compete at the higher levels with longer, more detailed work, but I'm never going to give up.

I need to get back to the Dragon Tree Series, I am still on Chapter Five of the third book- the Iron Sword, but I keep getting distracted by other things to do- such as my latest writing project- Split Personality- which is a conversation between different aspects of our thoughts- so far the debate/banter/argument is between Head, Heart, Appetite and Libido.  Anyone know anything about using one's work on Radio?  That is where I think it would best be used.
  • Listening to: The music on ClixPix
  • Reading: Lots of old SF
  • Watching: Videos of archaeology
  • Playing: Nothing. Getting my willpower back!
  • Eating: A healthy mix of different foods
  • Drinking: Orange Juice

Hey man, I know you've been wanting to do a collab on Halo Havoc for quite some time now, but I don't have flash pro anymore after i switched computers recently. I'm working on getting another copy soon, and if you're still interested, a collab should be pretty fun.

Hope everything's going fine on your side of the world. let me know if you're interested.
